Pilgrimage Overview
Join Fr. Steven Hoffer on a Pilgrimage to Spain, France, & Portugal!
DAY 1
Depart USA
Your pilgrimage begins today as you depart on your flight to Barcelona.
DAY 2
Arrive Barcelona
Upon arrival in Barcelona, you will be greeted by our travel representative and transferred to your hotel in the capital of Catalonia. Enjoy some time to rest before gathering for dinner.
DAY 3
Barcelona
This morning we visit the most famous Holy family church, La Sagrada Familia. La Sagrada Familia is an unfinished Catholic Basilica in Barcelona designed by the celebrated Art Nouveau architect Antoni Gaudi. We enjoy a full guided tour of the Basilica before we celebrate Mass. We will then continue to Park Guell before we return to our hotel for dinner and overnight.
DAY 4
Montserrat
This morning we will travel outside of Barcelona to visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Montserrat, the spiritual heart of Catalonia and home to a dramatically set Benedictine monastery. For 700 years this Marian shrine has attracted thousands of pilgrims from around the world. We pause here to visit the Black Madonna of Montserrat, probably Spain’s most fervent devotion to the Blessed Mother. We continue to Andorra La Vella for dinner and overnight.
DAY 5
Andorra La Vella
After breakfast, visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Meritxell, the national shrine of Andorra, before continuing toward Lourdes, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the world. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and, time permitting, join the evening candlelight procession.
DAY 6
Lourdes
Begin your day with Mass at the Grotto of Massabielle, where Our Lady appeared to St. Bernadette in 1858. Afterward, gather for an official group photo in front of the Basilica, followed by a guided tour of the sanctuary, including the Basilica of St. Pius X, the Baths, and other sacred sites where countless miracles have occurred. In the evening, participate once more in the moving candlelight procession.
DAY 7
Lourdes / Loyola / Santander
This morning we depart Lourdes and drive through the Pyrenees Mountains to Loyola, the hometown of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuits. Here you will visit the Basilica and the tower house where he was born and lived. We continue to Santander for dinner and overnight.
DAY 8
Oviedo
Depart for Oviedo, capital of the Asturias region. Visit the Cathedral of Oviedo, home to the tombs of the Asturian kings and the Cámara Santa, a 9thcentury chapel housing sacred relics and statues of Christ and the Apostles. Continue to Santiago de Compostela for dinner and overnight
DAY 9
Santiago De Compostela
Today, discover the sacred city of Santiago de Compostela, the final destination of the world-famous Camino de Santiago. Visit the Cathedral of St. James, where the relics of the Apostle are preserved. Pilgrims have journeyed here for centuries to venerate St. James, the first Apostle to spread the Gospel in Spain. Visit the crypt, touch the central pillar (Pórtico da Gloria), and admire the Botafumeiro, the great incense censer. Afterward, enjoy free time to stroll through the beautiful old town.
Optional: Begin your day with a short walking pilgrimage from Monte do Gozo, where pilgrims first glimpse the Cathedral’s spires, and complete the final steps of the Camino to the shrine of St. James.
DAY 10
Porto / Fatima
Today we depart Santiago de Compostela and continue to Porto, Portugal’s picturesque coastal city. Visit a local wine cellar and enjoy a tasting before visiting the Church of St. Francis, a Gothic masterpiece. Continue to Fatima, one of the world’s most beloved Marian pilgrimage sites, for dinner and overnight.
DAY 11
Fatima
Today, visit the sacred sites of Fatima, where the Blessed Virgin appeared to the three shepherd children—Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta—in 1917. Explore the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, the Apparition Chapel, and the new Basilica of the Holy Trinity. In the evening, participate in the Rosary and Candlelight Procession, a moving expression of faith shared by pilgrims from around the world.
DAY 12
Santarém
Today we depart Fatima and journey south to Santarém, one of Portugal’s most historic cities. Upon arrival, we visit the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Conception, renowned for its remarkable architecture and sacred heritage. We then continue to the Church of St. Stephen, the site of the famous Eucharistic Miracle of Santarém, which took place in 1247. Here, we will learn about the miraculous event that has drawn pilgrims from around the world for centuries. Afterward, we enjoy lunch in Santarém, followed by some free time to explore the city on our own.
DAY 13
